Chinese course

  • What kind of courses does the Language Center offer?
  • The Language Center offers courses in foreign languages and Chinese Language.

    You can visit our website to know more about foreign courses, such as English, Vietnam, Korean, Japanese etc.

    The Chinese language courses include Seasonal Chinese program ,Short-term Mandarin Course ,Online Mandarin CourseChinese study tours,

    Credit Chinese course, Individual/Customized courses,

    Corporate training course, and Chinese teacher training courses.

    If you want to learn Chinese in gruop class, you can consider about  Seasonal Chinese program and Short-term Mandarin Course.

  • What is the Seasonal Chinese program?
  • Students’ study of Seasonal Chinese program is conducted in groups in this course.

    The course runs every spring, summer, autumn and winter each year.

    Each seasonal course runs about 2 to 3 months.

    It is a small group class consisting of around 5 to 12 students.

    Foreigners over 18 year old who hold senior high school diploma or equivalent educational background are welcome to apply.

  • I want to learn Chinese, but I am not sure which course to apply for.
  • For applicants aiming to gain visa for studying Chinese purpose in the future, he/she must take the

    Seasonal Chinese program.

    Other residents who already have legal visas may also take the Seasonal Chinese program.

    However, students who can’t attend the group classes due to time conflict or with different learning needs, Individual Class/Customized Chinese Class can be considered.

  • When applying for the course, is it allowed to apply for more than one term of Seasonal Chinese program?
  • Please select the term(season) you would like to start with your studies when registering online,

    and tell us how long you would like to study Chinese at the language center.

     

  • Are the Chinese Classes taught during the day from Monday to Friday?
  • Students’ study of Seasonal Chinese program is conducted in groups in this course.

    Seasonal Chinese program runs during the day every Monday to Friday.

    However, students who can’t attend the group classes due to time conflict or with different learning needs, Individual Class/Customized Chinese Class, Short-term Mandarin Course or Online Mandarin Course can be considered.

  • Can I sit in the Chinese course?
  • Yes.

    You just need to pay for 1,000 NTD, and it can be deducted from your tuition fee if you register after.

  • Does the Seasonal Chinese program tuition fee include miscellaneous fees?
  • Not included.

    Seasonal Chinese program tuition fee does not include registration fee, other insurance fee, teaching materials fees, dormitory fees and others.

  • If there is a typhoon coming tomorrow, will the Language Center suspend the class?
  • In case of natural disasters such as typhoons, extremely heavy rain, or unforeseen factors, the standards for the suspension of classes in the Language Center are based on the announcement of the website of Directorate-General of Personnel Administration,Executive Yuan .

Visa

  • What is visa for studying Chinese purpose? What is its relationship with visa and my learning Chinese here?
  • The Chinese Language Seasonal Course runs about 2 to 3 months.

    In order to ensure that you can finish the full course, the validity of the visa you hold must cover the period of your study.

    The visa for studying Chinese purpose is a type of visas issued by a foreign representative office or Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    It allows foreigners to come to Taiwan to study Chinese.

    The duration of the stay is about 60 to 90 days.

    You can apply for an extension of stay in Taiwan up to two years.

    According to the rules and regulations, applicants must take 15 hours of Chinese language class per week, and they cannot work in the first year of study.

  • Can I use a different visa to study Chinese?
  • Yes. Those with legal visas can also apply.

    Click the "Register" upper right hand corner of the window and apply for the Chinese program on the application system.

  • Why is visa for studying Chinese purpose issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a temporary stay visa, not a residence visa?
  • For people who are not recipients of less than 6 months of scholarship, the representative office or office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will only provide a 60-day or 90-day temporary visa when issuing visa for studying Chinese purpose.

    You can apply for an extension of stay in Taiwan and conversion to a residence visa which can only be extended up to two years.

  • Can I directly apply for a one-year course and use it as a proof when applying for a visa?
  • Except for the recipients of Huayu Enrichment Scholarship,

    any reason is not possible to apply for a one year visa, because the representative office or office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs only provides a 60-day or 90-day temporary visa when issuing visa for studying Chinese purpose.

    If you wish to continue studying, you must pay the tuition fee for the next seasonal course and apply for an extension before your current temporary visa expires.

  • How long can I stay in Taiwan with a visitor visa for studying Chinese purpose?
  • The maximum stay of visitor visa is 180 days.

    The representative office or office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs usually provides a temporary visa with a stay of 60 days or 90 days when issuing a Study Chinese Visa.

    It can be extended twice, and before you exceed 180 days in Taiwan,

    you must convert your temporary visa to a residence visa in Taiwan.

  • My country belongs to a 30- or 60-day visa-free country. Can I directly go to the Language Center to study without applying for visa for studying Chinese purpose?
  • Not recommended.

    Because you cannot extend your stay in Taiwan using a 30 or 60 days free visa,

    and you must leave the country before your visa expires and to apply for a new visa again.

    In order to avoid affecting your study,

    it is not recommended to apply for the 30-day or 60-day free visa when planning to register for the Chinese Language Seasonal Course.

  • My country belongs to a 90-day visa-free country. Can I directly go to the Language Center to study without applying for visa for studying Chinese purpose?
  • It is allowed.

    The seasonal Chinese program runs for about 2 to 3 months.

    However, the date of entry will affect your number of days in class.

    You may not be able to complete the course, because you entered too early.

    Please refer to the course information of the seasonal Chinese program before arranging your itinerary and decide whether using a 90-day free visa is suitable for you.

  • My visa for studying Chinese purpose is about to expire, but the course is not yet done, can I extend my visa in Taiwan?
  • Yes.

    Please apply for an extension to the National Immigration Agency according to the rules within two weeks before the period of stay expires and bring the relevant documents such as an enrollment certificate and an attendance record.

  • How to apply for a residence visa for studying Chinese purpose?
  • Must be studying Chinese in the Language Center for 4 consecutive months, and must have registered for continued study for at least another 3 months.

    Before the visa expires, you can apply for a residence visa with documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs according to the website of visa information.

    It is recommended to apply about 3 to 4 weeks in advance.

  • How long can I study Chinese in Taiwan with visa for studying Chinese purpose?
  • According to the regulations of the National Immigration Agency, holders of Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) are generally allowed to extend their residency for a maximum period of two years (counted from the day the Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) is obtained).

    Those who have been in Taiwan for two years must leave Taiwan.

    If they want to continue learning Chinese in Taiwan, they can reapply for a visa for studying Chinese purpose, but the decision of whether to issue or not is determined by the representative office or office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • I have studied Chinese in Taiwan for two years with visa for studying Chinese purpose. I want to continue learning Chinese. Can I extend my visa?
  • No.

    The visa for studying Chinese purpose can only be extended to a maximum of two years.

    Those who have been in Taiwan for two years must leave Taiwan.

    If they want to continue learning Chinese in Taiwan, they can reapply for a visa for studying Chinese purpose, but the decision of whether to issue or not is determined by the representative office or office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • Can I work for part time job with visa for studying Chinese purpose?
  • If you hold a visa for studying Chinese purpose, you cannot work in the first 6 month.

    After studying Chinese for 6 months, you can apply for a work permit.

    Those without a work permit are not allowed to work.

  • I currently hold a visa for studying Chinese purpose, can I exchange it for a residence permit for a university or research institute in Taiwan?
  • Yes, for students who hold a residence permit to study Chinese, after applying for university in Taiwan,

    please prepare the following documents to be submitted to the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to apply for a change of visa type before the residence permit expires:

    1. University/Institute admission letter

    2. an enrollment certificate from the Language Center

    3. an attendance record from the Language Center

    4. University/Institute registration certificate

    5. Receipt of paid tuition fee for university/research institute

    6. Original and photocopy of the highest educational certificate verified by the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

    7. Transcript of record

    8. Proof of financial resource (at least US$3,000)

    9. Original and one photocopy of health certificate taken within 3 months

    10. Proof of language proficiency

  • I am currently studying Chinese with visa for studying Chinese purpose from another place in Taiwan. Can I transfer to your center to learn Chinese?
  • Yes, but you must click the "Register" upper right hand corner of the window and apply for the Chinese program on the application system.

    Prepare the following documents to apply for a transfer of school in National Immigration Agency.

    1. An enrollment certificate from your current school

    2. An attendance record from your current school

    3. An enrollment certificate from our Language Center

    4. Admission letter from our Language Center

  • I am currently staying in Taiwan on a non-study Chinese visa. Can I exchange for a visa for studying Chinese purpose in Taiwan?
  • No, you cannot apply for visa for a different purpose in Taiwan.

    If you want to apply for a visa for studying Chinese purpose, please prepare relevant documents,

    click the "Register" upper right hand corner of the window and apply for the Chinese program on the application system,

    and apply for a visa for studying Chinese purpose at a Taiwan representative office overseas.

Scholarship

  • I want to learn Chinese, can I apply for a scholarship? How to apply?
  • Taiwan provides Huayu Enrichment Scholarship,

    and the annual application date is from February 1 to March 31.

    (Subject to the announcement of the representative office of the applicant’s country),

    apply to the ROC embassy, consulate or representative agency,

    and the scholarship duration period is divided into summer classes (2 months), 3 months, 6 months, 9 months or 1 year.

    Except for the summer classes, the award period is from September 1 of the current year to August 31 of the following year.

    The recipient can get a monthly scholarship of NT$ 25,000.

  • Do I have to apply for a visa for studying Chinese purpose to apply for Huayu Enrichment Scholarship?
  • Of course.

    The recipient of Huayu Enrichment Scholarship must hold a visa for studying Chinese purpose.

  • I am one of the recipients of Huayu Enrichment Scholarship. Are there any rules that I should pay attention to?
  • Huayu Enrichment Scholarship students who are absent from school for more than 12 hours (including leave) in a single month will have deductions in the scholarship for the next month,

    and the total number of hours of absence must not exceed 30% of the entire course hours,

    and the rest will be handled according to the course regulations.

  • Yes, we provide pick-up service.

  • I don’t have insurance, can you help apply for me?
  • Yes, we provide accident insurance, which is about 600 NTD per month.

  • Do you provide student ID card?
  • For students who take 15 hours a week, we provide stuadent ID card.
